Ahyoka Yoga Classes

My classes usually contain Asana’s, yoga postures which are a series of movement, that are practised with awareness, using the breath and tailored to individual needs, to develop strength and flexibility to joints and muscles.

Pranayama, this is two sanskrit words, Prana which can be translated as life force or vital energy. Ayama to suspend or restrain. There are many pranayama techniques, these techniques help to bring awareness to the breath in a controlled manner, The full yogi breath brings awareness into breathing into all parts of the lungs.

At the end of the class there is relaxation to help the body absorb the benefits of the yoga practices.

I also try to add one of the following. Meditation which helps calm the mind, you do not have to sit crossed legged to meditate, sitting in a chair is fine. To help still the mind in meditation, you can focus on the breath, an object, a flower, listen to a sound or chant.

Mudra’s hand, eye or body gestures, bandha’s muscular locks, both mudra’s and bandha’s are used in some asana postures and pranayama practices, to hold or move energy around the body.

Mantra or chanting, om is the mantra most often used, all mantra’s contain om, which is considered to be the first sound to be heard in the universe.

At the end of the class there is relaxation to help the body absorb the benefits of the yoga practices.
